Wood Patio Furniture: Sand, Paint and Polish

by guestpost on May 7, 2010

Instead of automatically buying new wood patio furniture, you should consider refinishing what you have already.  If it is in otherwise good condition, it is a simple process of removing the old finish and applying a new one.  If there are dings, scratches or other surface blemishes on the table or other surfaces, then you may have to apply some filler, otherwise just sand until smooth, prime and then paint or varnish.  Giving it a coating of polyurethane or other sealant will protect your wood patio furniture for additional years and will keep it looking great.

Outdoor Wicker Furniture is Classic

by guestpost on April 30, 2010

Outdoor wicker furniture is classic and beautiful, but much easier to care for than most people assume.  If you are worried that it is not comfortable, you can add stylish cushions in your choice of colors.  You no longer have to have outdoor wicker furniture in just a few, limited shades either, and you can opt for brightly colored wicker or you can paint your own.  If you are a creative person, you can take a basic outdoor wicker furniture set and make it all your own with stripes, patterns and other fanciful touches.

Outdoor dining furniture enables you to be in touch with nature as you dine with your loved ones.  The type of furniture you must buy and the kind of care you will need to take depends on whether you patio is covered or not, and which part of the country you live in.  If your patio is covered, you may leave your outdoor dining furniture in place all year long.  If you do not have a patio cover, and face snowy weather, it is best to invest in fold able or stack able furniture.  This will enable you to put your furniture in the garage till the sun shows its face again.

Outdoor Furniture Sets: Using a Little Bit of Color

by guestpost on February 15, 2010

When you are looking for outdoor furniture sets, using a little bit of color can make an older set look brand new or make a new set even better.  Never be satisfied with just having the same old furniture set as everybody else – look for outdoor furniture sets that have special touches.  If you are more budget conscious, then opt for a plain furniture set and jazz it up yourself with your own color choices, either in bright and sparkling jewel tones or in sweet and airy pastels.  A great paint job can extend the life of your outdoor furniture sets, making it feel as if you have a whole new set every year.

Caring for Your Patio Umbrellas

by guestpost on January 18, 2010

patio umbrellasTo keep your patio umbrellas looking their best, you need to make sure that you are caring for them every day that they are in use on your patio. First of all, make sure that you are protecting your patio umbrellas from weather extremes. Close the umbrella in instances of high wind and consider taking it down completely during a storm. After the storm is over and done with, open the umbrella to allow it to try. If you need to clean it, make sure that you are using cleansers that are approved by the umbrella manufacturer, and make sure that you allow time for the umbrella to dry thoroughly before closing it back up for the night.

Cleaning Patio Umbrellas

by guestpost on December 28, 2009

Despite our best efforts, patio umbrellas can become dirty. Fortunately, they aren’t too hard to clean.  Here are some tips on how to clean patio umbrellas.

• Open the umbrella and see if you can remove the fabric, as this is going to make it easier to clean.
• Make a solution out of mild soap and water in a bucket. Soap used for washing dishes works well.
• Wet the umbrella.
• Wipe hard surfaces, such as the pole, with a rag that’s been put in the solution.
• Dip a brush in the soapy water and use it to clean the parts of the fabric that are dirty.
• Rinse the umbrella and let it dry before storing it.

Make a statement with your outdoor furniture

by guestpost on September 30, 2009

Your outdoor furniture says a lot about you as a homeowner.  Old, sun-bleached and cracked outdoor furniture makes a big statement about how you care for your home overall.  Take a second look at your outdoor furniture to see if it is saying what you want it to.  Cleanliness is an important part of making your outdoor furniture look good.  Dust, rainwater and insects can all make your chairs, tables and benches look filthy.  Take some time to do a simple soap and water clean up of these items.  Regular cleaning can also help make your outdoor furniture last longer.  If you notice any minor damages to your furniture, some minor repairs might be in order.  Most of these are easy to do and will not take a lot of time.  You can ask for tips on repairing outdoor furniture at your local home store.  Style is an aspect of furniture that sometimes gets ignored but it’s really just as important as cleanliness and condition.  Outdated outdoor furniture simply isn’t attractive and can really take away from the overall design of your yard or deck area.  Replacing your old-fashioned outdoor furniture with a more classic style can give your yard a fresh look.
