They are lightweight, and often are made to mimic wood. Plastic tables can tend to get shaky over time. They also get discolored by sunlight. Metal, although very versatile, is used more for table frames and bases rather than for table tops. Metal gets cold in the winter and the coating or paint can get worn out with time. Glass is a great option for table tops. It looks modern and elegant when situated on a powder coated metal frame.
