Outdoor furniture is a good investment for homeowners who enjoy entertaining during warm months.  Outdoor furniture ranges from a simple set of chairs to elaborate setups that take up half a backyard.  Types of outdoor furniture include tables, chairs, lounge chairs, benches, porch swings and shelves.  Popular materials used in outdoor furniture construction are treated or weather resistant woods, iron and other metals, and plastics.  Common woods used to construct outdoor furniture are acacia, teak, cedar and eucalyptus.  All of these woods tend to resist damage from both excessive moisture and excessive dryness, as well as sun damage.  They also have beautiful natural characteristics that make it unnecessary to paint or finish them.  Metal outdoor furniture is another type of durable patio or deck furnishings.  Wrought iron is used to make both ornate, classic styles of outdoor furniture and more simple contemporary designs.  Other metal alloys tend to weigh less than iron and can also be used in a wide variety of styles.  Plastics are useful in outdoor furniture design because of their durability.  Acrylics and resins often look great in modern styles.  Combined with some great fabric cushion, all of these materials can be used to create very comfortable poolside furniture, as well.
